Peace: a feeling that expresses serenity, well- being, balance, closeness to God. Peace may mean the fraternal love increase, the overcoming of obstacles. Peace is a feeling to be sow daily, and watered with goodness, understanding, wisdom, love and forgiveness.
The search for peace does not occur by simple will. When two or more people communicate, there are differences to be understood and overcome – perfection does not exist and learning occurs when divergent opinions clash and the break- even point is attained, along with balance and peace.
This type of peace goes beyond our personal needs. We all have inside fragments of the Lord, so if one suffers, so do we. If one of our brothers loses his battle to death or faces social inequality, or injustice, sickness, wars, we all die a little. What can we do about all the neglected children, elderly, and the marginalized people of all sorts. The homeless, landless, the ones whose direction was lost and those to whom life has been ungrateful? This way, he who lives in an unbroken home and has the minimum to live his life with dignity should be ever so thankful – and should ease the suffering of others. That is our mission. Helping others no matter their race or faith.
Living in a global village, we are aware of the real world. Provided that we act with determination and will to project a better world, we will be safe, tranquil and peaceful.
Being individualistic and say that all the opportunities are out there and everyone should mind his own business is a flawed argument.
So how can one promote peace? By acting locally. We will certainly not be able to solve all the problems which prevent us to achieve peace. However, we can, little by little, enable peace through volunteering and practicing honesty, faith, simplicity, forgiveness.
